Fit for Girls is a free 9-week program that exists to improve the overall health and well-being of adolescent girls by helping them prepare mentally and physically for a 5K race. Fit for Girls empowers middle-school girls to build confidence and resilience, develop life skills, and experience success as they cross the first of many literal and figurative finish lines!
Jingle Bell Run - December 14, 2019
This Fall, the girls in our program will be working toward the Jingle Bell Run, which is held annually in Crocker Park. This year’s race will take place on Saturday, December 14th, 2019.
Our Fall Season will kick off the week of October 14th. Fit for Girls workouts are held once a week after school and are one hour in length. Our schedule is composed of 9 workouts. Eight of our meetings take place before race day, with one final post-race meeting.

Our goal is that you come out of Fit for Girls feeling fabulous and fierce, feeling empowered and motivated to pursue the life of your dreams!
Fit for Girls coaches wear several hats. First, they are motivational instructors who remember what it is like to be a middle-school student. One of the most important roles a Fit for Girls coach plays is to establish a safe space for girls to share their feelings, thoughts, and ideas. Secondly, a Fit for Girls coach is a runner who has experienced the transformational power of movement in her own life. Coaches exercise alongside the girls and facilitate fitness by making it fun. Thirdly, Fit for Girls coaches are teachers, trained to deliver our weekly program which meets the National Health Education Standards with enthusiasm and integrity.
One thing that makes Fit for Girls unique is that on the morning of her 5K race, each girl is paired up one-on-one with an experienced female mentor and runner. The Sole Sisters' role on race morning is to help the girl she is paired with run her best race. Sole Sisters also have the opportunity to attend and participate in our weekly workouts with the girls. Our Sole Sisters help keep our program free of charge by volunteering their time in various capacities to help spread the word about our program and support our sponsoring partners.
The Fit for Girls program is designed to prepare girls for a 5K race, teaching them relevant skills like race day pacing. The bigger vision behind our program is to give the girls the tools they need to make the most of their dreams and overcome the challenges they encounter in their road ahead with a plan and added confidence. Each weekly workout has a theme in line with this vision of developing the whole girl. Girls learn about healthy body image, mindful eating, discover their super powers, and set and accomplish goals. Workouts are composed of ice breaker, movement, object, and reflections activities relevant to that week’s theme. At the end of each workout, the girls take home a workout plan for the week ahead and add a shoe to their collectible keychain, marking that they’ve moved one step closer to race day.
