Fit for Girls is a free 9-week program for middle-school girls that meets once a week after school. Over the course of the program, the girls progress from games to sustained running, as they take on skills that prepare mentally and physically to run a 5K race. The big picture behind our program is to give girls the tools they need to make the most of their dreams and overcome the challenges they encounter along the way with a plan and added confidence.
Education & Training
Each weekly workout has a theme and relevant lesson, covering a variety of topics such as nutrition, goal setting, and social skills. With this information and support, the girls in our program build confidence, resilience and develop skills they can bring into every other areas of their lives.
The Fit for Girls curriculum was created by a former middle-school teacher to be developmentally appropriate and aligns with National Physical Education Standards. It is designed to create a safe space for the girls to grow together as a team.
Coaching & Mentoring
Our coaches exercise alongside the girls during weekly workouts, teaching them race day pacing and other relevant skills. On race morning, each girl is paired with a Sole Sister, an experienced runner and mentor who will be by her side, every step of the way, helping her run her best 5K! Become a Sole Sister
Fit for Girls is designed to make exercise fun, and 90+% of the girls who come to the first meeting complete the entire program. One-hundred percent of the girls who start the 5K have crossed the finish line.
Now more than ever they need us.
Since 2010, Fit for Girls has been empowering middle-school girls to move into the best version of themselves.
Thousand Dollars Raised
Fit for Girls is proud to be the beneficiary of races such as Urban Cow Half Marathon, She Rocks the Trails and Fair Oaks Sun Run. We’re grateful for the many individuals and companies who understand that empowering a girl today sparks a leader for tomorrow.
HUNDRED Girls Impacted
Since our first team of 8 girls, Fit for Girls continues to grow both in size and in location. As we continue to reach out across the Sacramento region, we are able to reach more tween girls who will benefit from participating in the program.
Thousand Miles run
Each workout is designed to get the girls moving and raise their heart rates all while having fun. Along with the miles run together each week, girls are provided with an age-appropriate training plan to prepare them for their 5K.
Due to the generosity of our sponsors, the Fit for Girls program is completely free for every middle-school girl who joins our program. In addition to the weekly coached workouts, each girl receives a Fit for Girls t-shirt and jump rope for safe workouts anytime, anywhere. Her registration fee for her first 5K, as well as the customized Fit for Girls medal she receives after crossing the finish line are hers at no charge thanks to visionaries like you.
